Borage Leaf

Borage is a gangly, airy plant growing up to about 2 1/2' high and about 2' wide. The leaves are wrinkled, long ovals, covered with prickly little hairs. The leaves are in clumps at the base. The flower clusters sit atop long hollow prickly stems which come out of the leave base.

Properties/Uses - A rich source of Vitamin F, which is used in the treatment and care of dry skin. Extremely hydrating and beneficial for sensitive skin. Prevents dryness and associated roughness. Borage leaf tea is good for reducing fevers when taken hot, Borage is a diaphoretic, which means that this tea induces sweating, thereby lowering the fever. Borage tea also makes a good remedy for colds and flu, especially when these infect the lungs because it also treats coughs. The leaves and flowers are rich in potassium and calcium and therefore are good blood purifiers and a tonic. A borage leaf infusion is also good for insomnia and nervous tension. Borage leaf has been used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, eczema, psoriasis, coronary dysfunction, high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol.
