Couch Grass Root

Couch grass is a perennial grass, 1 to 3 feet high, found as a weed in meadows, fields, and waste places. Native to Europe and naturalized in the U.S., it is more prevalent and troublesome in the eastern states. Its long, pale yellow, creeping, jointed rootstock sends out runners underground. The stem and leaf sheaths are smooth and glabrous; but the thin, flat linear, bright flowers grow in spikes from June to August.
