Yohimbe Bark

This tree is found growing in the wild throughout tropical west Africa from Nigeria to Gabon along the coast, and is a tall evergreen that grows to 30 meters in height with a spread of 8 meters, and large, leathery leaves. It is the inner bark of the Corynanthe Yohimbe. The leaves are 3 to 5 inches in length and are oblong and ovate in shape. The seeds are winged. The stem is erect and branching, the leaves are oval, acuminate and about 10cm long; the seeds are small winged slivers, almost paper thin.

Properties/Uses - This remarkable herb acts as a natural stimulant, helps important functions, and is beneficial in helping reduce blood pressure, increasing circulation and sex drive. This bark contains a substance called yohimbine, about 6%, and additional similar compounds known as indole alkaloids. It stimulates chemical reactions in the body that aids in impotence caused by tension, stress, or fatigue. Clinical studies have shown that it is an effective treatment for impotency in patients who've lost the ability to become erect due to diabetes or heart problems. This herb increases blood flow to the genitals of both males and females. It has been shown to increase the body's production of norepinephrine which is essential for erection and stimulates nerve ganglia in the pelvic area which is also helpful to men with erectile dysfunction. Effects of this product include; increases in libido, stamina, has a stimulatory effect on the general nervous system and can dilate blood vessels thus cause blood pressure changes. The extracts can increase the heart rate, raise in body temperature and blood pressure. The bark has been used traditionally to treat angina and hypertension. It was also smoked and snuffed by natives for its hallucinogenic effect. In some areas of western Africa including Ghana, the Ivory Coast and Upper Volta, a decoction is used to treat fevers and leprosy. It is also chewed to help relieve a cough. It is shown to elevate mood, reduce anxiety and depression, prevent heart attacks, helps building muscles, as a nootropic drug it makes people more mentally active and many other positive effects on overall health.

Cautions - Do not use if you have high blood pressure. Do not take this product together with food or drink containing tyramines such as cheese, chocolate, beer, nuts, aged meats, etc. Definitely, do not take it with the amino acids tyrosine or phenylalanine together. It may be dangerous, if used with anti-depressants, antihistamines, caffine and sedative. It may cause some other side effects too. The best policy would be consulting with your doctor, if you are not sure about you can take this herb or not.
